Welcome to Residency Matching

Welcome to our web presence.  This web site is designed to assist you in your pursuit of residency education for the next academic year.  Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with ORMS and the matching process by browsing this site.

The deadline for submission of the application to ORMS is February 1.  Please check with your individual programs to be certain that you comply with their application deadlines.  Some programs have an earlier deadline for applications.

Our Mission

The Optometric Residency Matching Service, Inc. (ORMS) was established in 1984 for VA residency matching.  In 1991, ORMS was incorporated as an independent, not-for-profit matching service for optometric residencies.  The goals of ORMS are as follow:

  • to encourage optometry students to consider the value of post-graduate optometric residency training;

  • to increase the visibility of participating programs by publication of this web page;

  • to standardize the application process for participating programs; and

  • to create a fair matching process for all involved in the process.

Currently, there are over 300 optometric residency positions that are accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric Association (AOA), 243 N. Lindberg Blvd., St. Louis, Missouri 63141.  ORMS now matches over 350 positions nationwide at approximately 170 residency sites.

Only programs that are affiliated with an Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) school or college of optometry may participate in the ORMS matching process.
